Animal Facility
With the generous support from the Li Ka Shing Foundation, Faculty of Medicine has inaugurated a new animal facility at the Li Ka Shing Medical Sciences Building in Prince of Wales Hospital in 2024, namely CUHK Faculty of Medicine Li Ka Shing Experimental Animal Core Facility.
It is an integral part of the ongoing upgrade of research facilities for the Faculty. Spanning an area of 2,435 square feet, the animal facility comprises 4 animal holding rooms, and core facilities each designated for an animal workshop, an animal biosafety level 2 (ABSL2) facility, and a cleaning and sterilization facility.
In comparison to the capacity in previous facility at Prince of Wales Hospital, the new facility can accommodate 4.2 times more mouse cages or 2.5 times more mice in total. This upgrade addresses the growing demand for experimental animal resources and experimentation space.
